This is probably as fine an example of a boy's kimono that we have offered for sale. It is remarkable to have the lining kimono and for the condition of both to be in such excellent condition.
Mid Showa Period (1926-1989)
The Omiyamaidi is a child kimono worn as part of Shinto ceremony. Grandmothers carry the month old baby to the temple for a special blessing. It is worn again in November of the year the child is 3, 5, and 7 years old, for the Shi-chi-go-san ceremony. Boys kimono often have a black background and are decorated with auspicious symbols. They are sometime heavily embroidered. Because of their diminuitive size they can be used effectively for interior decorative accents.
Hand painted and embroidered with a fierce eagle and pine trees. It is in excellent condition, no stains, worn areas or fading, it is still showing the basting in the arm opening and lower front sides. The lining white kimono has one small spot under the arm opening and two stains on the left front tie. I have not tried to wash the lining kimono, it is possible that the stains will wash off. The pattern on the lining is also pine trees and eagles.
Length: approx: 38 "
Width at chest: approx: 32"
